SNCF, the French national railway operator, has said the strike, which has been called to protest proposed changes in the public employees' pension system, will cause the cancellation of 90 percent of trains on Thursday. The Paris Metro is also expected to be largely shut down.

Eurostar, which operates trains linking London to Paris and Brussels via the tunnel under the English Channel, said it would also be affected by the strike. It has canceled six trains for Thursday, out of a total of about 50 daily services, and said others may be canceled or delayed. It has canceled four trains Friday, as it expects disruptions to continue.
